For several decades John worshipped, and served, at the Full Gospel Tabernacle on Povall Road, Durban. He was a Deacon, led the singing, taught Sunday School, ran the Youth Outreach, held Prayer Meetings, counted the offerings, baptised people, and, along with many other tasks and activities, he took to the pulpit to preach when required.
Aside from the Tab, John also retained connections with the other Pentecostal churches in the area, and their people. He also, every Wednesday night, went to the Excelsior Place of Safety in Pinetown to minister, share, teach and give God's love to the children there.
In later years, John started a Bible Study group, and his brand "Teaching the Word of Life for Life" is retained in the title of this book.
